Go

Go, the game, of which Kawabata said, "Go is to Western chess what philosophy is to double entry accounting."

And this is the game he describes in his book Meijin.

I love complicated games so long as other people have to play them. Me - I fling the chess board and men the minute I'm beginning to lose. Which is usually five minutes into the game.

In that case, you should try Suicide Chess. Way more fun.

Point of game - first person to lose, wins. If you are presented with an opportunity to take a rival piece, you HAVE to (you can choose which one if multiple options are available). All other rules as normal.

And if you decide to play Blitz Suicide Chess, a game is over in about 3 minutes. Try it!

??!: I already love the game! I can just see myself becoming world champion or *gasp* even getting into the Guiness Book of World Records.

Did you see the wiki page fpr go, though? There's a move that's called suicide. It's not allowed. Only the Japs can think up a rule where suicide turns out to be not respectable and it's in a game.

If we're doing variations on chess, may I point to this post of mine from a year and half ago. Scroll down to the fourth game.

Falstaff: Very nice. Not sure how I missed it. You do know Edwin Morgan's Video Box No. 25, don't you?

SB: Nice. Though the inspiration for that piece is, of course, Perec's Life: A User's Manual.

Falstaff: You mean the Morgan poem? Hmm. Very likely.

you guys should make a poetry game. Seriously.

falsie: That first chess variant seems quite interesting. Might try it one of these days, when I play against myself.
