Nail Biting Finish

Blogging will be slow or non-existent. (Yes, I've said this before many times, haven't I?)

This time there's a very good reason. I have whitlow'd my thumb and now I can barely type. Do you know how difficult it is to hit the space bar with any other finger than the thumb?

I briefly considered taking a photograph of the infected nail for your collective edification but, you know, the dexterity involved in negotiating cameras, cables and what-nots is making me faint.

And I have much driving to do today. On the assumption that thumbs, like batteries, have only so much stored up energy, I need to save it all for the steering wheel.

Now I feel like some lower life form.

Bah.

Oh- get well soon, M'sieur Thumb.
(Somehow, unconsciously, all offending body parts are addressed by me in the masculine gender- sexist so-and-so, aren't I?)
Many withdrawal symptoms impending for your readers, SB.

Really? I mostly end up using the index finger. Is not that difficult surely.

Sur, Dipali: see? The minute I say I can't post, I find I HAVE to.

??!: Please tell me you don't use your index finger for all the keys?

I can't. I just can't. It drives me crazy. I need my thumb back.

nope, one uses many fingers.

Can you just not wear a thimble?

I use my index fingers for all the keys and my blog has over half a million words on it! I didn't even know there was another way.

Get well soon. You have an appropriate pseudonym. I sometimes use my left thumb -- logically it shouldn't matter, and one of my laptops has a space bar that works better on its left side.

I briefly considered looking for those mini-condom thingies, the ones that fit one on a finger but what are the odds that I'd find them in Hy7d, no?

Jai: :D this is what's called making a virtue of necessity.

Rahul: Thanks. And I wonder why I never considered using my other thumb...should try it.

I just realised:

1. I use my thumb to use the space bar, unless I'm using only my left hand to type. And it is the right thumb too.

2. I do all of the things that Wikipedia says you mustn't do. Unless you want to get the thingy. Am I lucky or what??

Rahul: I tried. Using the left thumb requires effort on your part and time. Much precious time. That would have been better used typing.

Espèra: It doesn't take me long to shift. Besides, I type at close to 100 words a minute. That's way faster than I think. So slowing down my typing isn't a problem...

Rahul's right, it's not that difficult to use the left thumb.

I realise I use whatever digit happens to be closest to the key, but again, perhaps speedtyping changes the way you use them.

It's not like it is very difficult, just that you have to be conscious of the fact that you gotta use the left thumb. On the other hand, I use the right thumb quite unconsciously, without even thinking about it.
